This comforting Autumnal crumble makes great use of the fruit that we have growing in our gardens or allotments at this time of year, if you freeze the fruit you could make the crumble at a later date,
I stewed the fruit in the microwave, made the crumble topping the day before and popped it in a zipped top bag in the fridge over night which made it very easy today when we had family for lunch; everything was ready, all I had to do was pop the crumble in the oven!
We enjoyed ours with custard, but you could have cream, ice cream or double cream or……….. with them all!!!!!!

Serves 6 – 8
1kg of Victoria plums, halved and stoned
1kg cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
100g butter
50g plain flour
50g wholemeal plain flour, I used spelt
50g light brown sugar
2tbs artificial granulated sweetener
2tsp ground cinnamon
150g porridge oats

Method
Preheat the oven to 180c, gas 4, 350f
Place your stoned and cored fruit in a non – stick lidded saucepan and gently cook on a low heat for 20 minutes until cooked and tender, or in the microwave for 10 minutes in a Pyrex style bowl.
In a large mixing bowl combine the flours and butter and rub them together to resemble fine breadcrumbs., stir in the sugar, sweetener, cinnamon and porridge oats.
When your ready to bake the crumble, sprinkle the crumble mixture over the stewed fruit and bake in oven for 25 – 30 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
Serve with custard, cream, ice – cream or all three!
