Candied Orange Slices

These delicious tasty and pretty chocolate dipped oranges slices make a gorgeous edible gift. I used a mixture of milk and dark chocolate, but if you prefer you can used milk white or dark.

The orange slices can be used in other ways, they can be left in the syrup and stored in the fridge for up to 2 months, or the dried candied oranges can be used in puddings, cakes or panettone.

These are sightly time consuming but well worth the effort.

Makes approximately 32 segments

2 large clean oranges

300ml water

150g golden caster sugar

50g good quality dark chocolate

50g good quality milk chocolate

Method

Cut the oranges into 3mm slices, you will need good quality oranges as you eat the skin.

Place the sugar and water in a medium saucepan over a high heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved, you will need a nice translucent sugar syrup.

Add the orange slices, the syrup should cover the orange slices, bring to the boil, then lower the heat to low, cover with a lid and simmer gently for 45 minutes. Remove from the heat and let the orange slices cool completely in the syrup.

Preheat the oven to 100c put the orange slices onto wire racks and place into the oven for 20 minutes turning over half- way through.

Leave to cool.

While the orange slices are cooling, gently melt the chocolate in a Bain Marie. Cut each orange slice one in half and dip into the melted chocolate.

Leave to harden then store in an airtight container.
